During my third year at university, I undertook a project to create a theatrical recreation of an 1890s corset.
I based my design on a pattern from Jill Salen's book Corsets: Historical Patterns & Techniques, which I adapted to fit my model. As this was a modern reconstruction, I used contemporary materials that differed from the original corset I studied during my visit to St. Fagan's National Museum of History in Cardiff in October 2024.
Below is my digital drawing of the corset I recreated.
Photograph F78.277 is the original garment, held in St Fagan's National History Museum Wales, Cardiff.
